Award winning apples have long been a tradition at Gowans. And though we like blue ribbons and trophies as much as anybody, the best recognition comes from our happy apple eating customers.
After 140 years of growing award-winning apples, Gowans has begun making hard cider! Not only does this make Gowan Orchards the oldest estate-grown orchards producing cider in California, our heirloom wine-style ciders have won a number of Gold awards!
When the California Cider Competition announced the 2015 award-winning ciders, Gowans 1876 Heirloom Cider (our tribute to the year our family began growing apples in Mendocino’s Anderson Valley) received the only Double Gold awarded in the competition. We also received 3 three additional Gold Medals and one Bronze Medal, making Gowans Heirloom Ciders the highest awarded cidery in the competition across all divisions.
